Scissor information:

The Shanks (Handles), The Blades, The Fulcrum, (Pivot point at the screw) Finger Holes,

Tips which are at the points of the blade and the Tang, (Finger-rest or Pinkie-rest)

Cutting-Edges are on the inside of the blades. The ride-line’ is on the inside of the blades, running along the cutting edge and below the screw. This is a fine polished line where the blades ride on each other when opened or closed.

The inside of our scissors blades are hollow-ground and are concave. The deeper the hollow ground on a scissors, usually the better the scissors are. The reason for this is that the blades do not rub on each other and cause friction which will bruise the hair and create resistance while cutting. But to hold an edge with a deep hollow, the steel must be harder and superior to a flat blade.

This technology goes hand in hand with the fact that there is no bevel (flat straight line from a grinder) on the cutting edge of the blades.

All this together is called a ‘Clam-Shell’ or ‘Japanese’ style scissors. Or ‘Hama Guri Blades.’

The old type of scissors is called ‘German style.’ These do not have as deep a hollow-grind on the back of the blades and have a flat bevel on the outside of the blades at the cutting edge.

Our metal is an alloy that is hardened by the addition of Cobalt and molybdenum, Stainless by adding the maximum amount of chrome (18%) There is a certain amount of ‘give’ in the blades and handles, but if one tries to bend them, they will snap.

Scissors are measured from the tips to the base of the lowest finger-hole.

The Tang (Finger-rest) is not counted

Detailed Talyn Shear Information

Three-Finger Scissors in Straight & Curved

Designed by an orthopedic surgeon, it positions the finger bones and muscles in the natural position, reducing strain and tension in the Carpals.

They encourage the use of the pinky muscle (which is the strongest muscle of the hand.) and spread the load away from the thumb, index and pointing finger. With a regular scissors, you do not use the pinkie because even though you rest it on the tang, at the angle of your hand, you have very little leverage. The thumb is on a short shank and very little movement is required to open or close the blades. All four top fingers are on steel and one has excellent control; even to the point where it can be used around the face and feet. By using the scissors with your hand in the natural position, normally unused muscles are used as well as regular scissoring muscles and the hard work of grooming becomes a lot easier.

This scissor is full of real benefits. Once they get used to it, they will not use anything else.

Some groomers turn their Curved scissors over. (Flip.) With the three-finger, one can do it, but not with all three finger-holes. The top one must be ignored.

Swivel-Thumb Scissors in straight and curved...

Originally only in 8.5inch, it positions the thumb away from the hand, very comfortably. The thumb swivels with the direction of the hand without being twisted as with a regular scissors. As all the weight of the scissors is hanging from the ring finger, (the thumb does not carry weight as it is moving around.)

Curved Scissors.

All have double Tangs so that they can be ‘flipped.’

The smaller sizes 6.0 & 7.0 have ergonomic bumps on both handles as well.

The 7.0 inch is our biggest selling curved scissors. Not too long & not too short. Great for trimming the face, feet and top-knots.

Available in Left-Handed.

Blenders.

Style number 4207 has 42 teeth and is 7.0 inches long. The handles have a twisted rope effect which is attractive, but also practical when hands are wet. 4207 also available in left handed. Style number 3306 has 33 teeth and is 6.0 inches long, only available in right handed.

It took us 4 years to develop this blender for the beauty industry. Ladies were having their hair done and would go home looking great. Two/Three days later the hair would frizz and flop. We traced it back to the blender and found that when used; the blender is jamming uncut hair (which has no place to run) between the teeth of the blender, and jamming it in with a sharp blade. The hair is thus bruised and damaged. Two/Three days later the hair splits, frizzes & flops.

The key-hole blender has a number of innovative benefits. The teeth a Y shaped at the base and there are holes there as well. This allows the uncut hair to slip through the holes without being damaged by the cutting blade. The cut hair is also undamaged as both blades are concave and give a clean and precise cut. Regular thinners and blenders bruise/break the hair as their blades are flat and sharpened at 25 degrees. Friction occurs and the hair is hurt. TALYN blenders are sharpened at 50 degrees and this with the concave blades cuts the hair cleanly. To hold this super sharp edge, the steel on these blender blades is made separate from the handles with extremely hard steel which is harder than clipper blades. (The blades are fixed to the handles afterwards by laser welding.)
