Caution! Dosent Play Well With Others

WWW
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:19:58 AM »

Ive been grooming over 15 years and in that time ive  learned a lot about grooming, about dogs, about people & about myself.
While some people view grooming as something to be ashamed of, something to hide, I have to say
WHY?
I'm proud to be a Dog groomer!

I have taken my love for animals to the next level, I make a difference daily to each and every  Dog & person that comes through  the door.

I am an Artist, I can turn the sad frumpy  dirty ball of matted fluff into a happy, bouncing with joy pet that feels good about themselves. I create beauty out of chaos, I bring out the inner beauty of each & every pet I see.  I remind  Owners why they first fell in love with "Fido"

I am a beautician, I can skillfully style even the oddest mutt to create  personality & panache.

I'm an Educator, a teacher if you will. I  educate owners on the care of their pets  so  neglected and matted  cases are stopped before they happen. I educate myself on all aspects of grooming & pet care & then pass that info on to other. I have an effect on dogs & people I will never meet or even know about.
Dogs thousands of miles away may have a better day because of  information "I" passed on. I educate the public on caring for there pet, I educate the public on what it is to be a dog groomer.

I am a Health & Behavior Consultant, I  help strengthen the bond between pet & owner, I am the first line of defense for the dogs that have unnoticed health issues. I have saved lives.

I am a psychologist, I work with owners to show them what they need to work on with there pets to create a happier, more fulfilling life for all involved. I show neglectful owners the error of there ways.

I am an Ambassador. I represent  the grooming community to everyone I meet. I am Proud of what I am and people i turn see me and my profession in a whole new light

I'm PROUD to be a Dog Groomer.

Tell us...
Why are you Proud to be a Groomer ?

Dog grooming is so misunderstood by the general public. I`ve met people who think its cruel! people who think we are women with nothing better to do ! people who think because you are a groomer some how you missed out on your education ! and I still meet people who when I tell them what I do for a living they turn there noses up. I THINK I HAVE ONE OF THE BEST JOBS EVER, I NEVER THINK! I DON`T WANT TO GO TO WORK TODAY, I LOVE WORKING WITH THE DOGS, I THINK I`LL BE GROOMING FOR A LONG TIME TO COME YET, !! Its time we all got together and educated jo public. I`M PROUD TO BE A DOG GROOMER !!!!!! MARIE Cheesy Cheesy

I agree with all the comments about dog grooming. I would hate to be sat in an office all day on a computer , i'd rather be on my feet moving around doing something good. I think we as groomers do something good for the dogs, if we didn't who would. !! I met up with some friends early this year and they all asked me what I was doing, they were all at university wanting to be in teaching. When I said I was a dog groomer they said oh thats good, but looked as though omg who would want to do that job. But I can stick two fingers up at them so called friends now because they cant even get a job in teaching and have had to get other jobs in supermarkets.  Ive always wanted to work with dogs when I was growing up but wasn't sure what to do. When I saw that anyone could train to be a groomer I thought that is the job I wanted to do, I like making the dogs feel better in themselves and it makes me happy seeing them going from a matted mess , all down and depressed to a happy dog wagging its tail. Thats why I became a groomer and Im proud of it!!! Lucy  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I am proud to be a dog groomer.  I want to groom dogs and I never get up in the mornings and say I dont want to go to work.

As Jennifer says, I am much, much more than a canine stylist.  I have saved lives(dog).  I reassure, educate, sympathise and console clients and owners.  I laugh and cry with my customers and am part of their life as well as their dogs.

I too am an ambasador for this industry.  I attend every seminar I can get to.  I keep up to date with all new techniques and products, thanks to this forum, and talk with respected people in the grooming world.

We all need to be progressive, learn and try.  Present a professional image both personal and premisis, and always remember, its the owner that takes the dog to us, not the dog taking the owner.  Both should be treated to your knowledge and understanding.

Well said everyone - I couldn't agree with you more  Grin

I'm also proud to be a dog groomer. I love my job and wouldn't want to do anything else.

A professional approach is a must in this day and age. It's no good being a 'slap-dash-harry' and not caring about the way you deal with customers and their pets - you may loose more than you keep otherwise. Also, a clean and welcoming salon is the way to go. I have had so many lovely comments from customers about my grooming room - how clean, tidy and organised it is - that speaks volumes to me  Grin

I also attend as many grooming seminars and events as I can it's a great way to progress and learn new skills/tips/ and meet other liked minded groomers. You never stop learning as things change so much in the grooming industry that it's wise to keep up with new trends and equipment.

Did I say that I love my job  Grin Tongue

I also love my job and am proud to be a Dog & Cat Groomer.

I used to work in an office and would rather work with animals than some people. I agree with the others -what other job is so varied and requires such a vast array of skills with both people and animals?. Never a dull moment and the days fly by!!
We should be proud of our profession and strive to be the best that we can possibly be by continual learning and trying to change the public perception of our Industry.
Whoever said that they were ashamed or not proud to be a groomer is definitely in the wrong business and god love those poor wee animals who go to their establishments.

This forum is helping us all become better groomers and help others.

Wow, stumbled across this old thread!!!! Thought it needed an airing  Wink Wink

Never a truer word said guys!!   Cool
I dont care what other people think about my chosen career either,
All I care about is making sure all the dogs that come to me & their owners , get the quality service they pay for.
I too educate to prevent,  I try to make a difference in the dogs life and help the owners understand how their lack of knowledge & understanding affects the dogs.
I love what I do, regardless of the Poo Roll Eyes
I love watching all the dogs wander off with their owners with a new found freedom.
I love learning new techniques, styles & trying new products, meeting other like minded people.
I love all the different situations and backgrounds the dogs come from, you learn so much by listening, spending time with owners.

How many other people get to do what they love doing & get paid!!!!
Too many people already wishing their lives away hating every minute of their working lives.
Well, life's to short!!! Why waste it doing something you hate!!!
I wouldn't change what I do ever!!!!
I will always strive to be better and intend to be "Proud to be a Groomer" for as long as I physically can!!  Grin
